Q&A with Project Coordinator Carsyn
Q: What is your role, and how long have you been with APM Steam?
Carsyn: I’m a Project Coordinator, and I’ve been with APM Steam for about a year and a half.
Q: What do you do at APM Steam?
Carsyn: I support both our projects and our customers to ensure the best possible experience from start to finish.
In practice, that means managing project details and coordinating across multiple departments, including marketing, accounting, sales, and logistics. I make sure key information is accurate and documented before work begins, help monitor progress as projects move through different stages, and assist with the wrap-up process to ensure everything is ready for invoicing.
Q: What has kept you at APM Steam?
Carsyn: Two things: our values and our people.
APM’s core values—empathy, intellectual curiosity, and pride—really resonated with me when I was job searching. But what makes the difference is that people here actually live those values. We talk about them often, reflect on how well we’re representing them, and apply them in how we work with both customers and each other. That gives those values real meaning.
Q: Can you share a moment that made you think, “This is why I do this”?
Carsyn: There are a lot of those moments. Even after a year and a half, I still experience them regularly.
One that stands out was when I received an urgent voicemail early one morning from a property manager dealing with a severe odor issue at an apartment complex. She suspected it might be related to the steam system and reached out to us for help.
Having worked in property management myself, I understood how stressful that kind of situation can be. I called her back right away, reassured her that we would handle it quickly, and immediately coordinated with our sales and logistics teams to mobilize a response.
We had technicians on-site that same morning to assess and resolve the issue. By the afternoon, the situation was under control, and the customer was significantly more at ease.
It was rewarding to step into a situation I could personally relate to and help resolve it quickly. And experiences like that happen all the time here.
Q: What is something about APM Steam that people might not expect?
Carsyn: People might be surprised by how open we are to change and new technology, especially for a company our size.
In my past experience, some organizations tend to stick with existing systems until something breaks. At APM, we take a more proactive approach. We’re always looking for ways to improve and grow, which helps us address issues before they become major problems.
A big part of my role involves refining team processes and improving how we manage and interact with project and customer data. It’s about finding better ways to work—not just for our team, but for our customers as well.
Q: What would you tell someone considering joining APM Steam?
Carsyn: I’d say that at APM, every role truly matters.
The scope of what we manage is significant, and we consistently deliver high-quality work. That requires holding ourselves to high standards while also recognizing the unique value each team member brings.
Q: Do you have a go-to phrase or mantra at work?
Carsyn: Doing something imperfectly is better than not starting at all.
Being future-focused means, we’re often making changes and improvements in real time. Even if something isn’t perfect, taking action moves us forward. Starting, learning, and improving is always more valuable than standing still.
